If you read my last newsletter you know about #TheNotJessBookClub, which is where we choose a book together and then monthly or bimonthly I will update this with an issue where I discuss my thoughts on the Chosen Book Club Pick. Very fun, very fresh, very Reese, very high literature.
Anyways, I have already discussed this on the Twitter Timeline, but I figured since the last issue was relatively short I will make a follow-up part 2 to it, where I confirm the May 2022 Not J*ss Book Club Introductory Pick here and now.
In case you missed it, the first ever Not J*ss Book Club Chosen Pick is…
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
If you are living under some type of rock where they don’t have Twitter, TikTok, book stores or sapphics… I don’t know how you became subscribed to my newsletter, but Taylor Jenkins Reid is the author of both The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six. I greatly enjoyed both of those aforementioned novels - to the point I even shouted out The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo as one of my favorite reads of 2021 in my last newsletter, remember?!
When googled “Malibu Rising plot”, RandomHouseBooks dot com says “Malibu Rising is the story of the Riva family—surfer siblings Nina, Jay, Hud, and Kit, as well as their mother June and their father, the famous singer, Mick Riva. It takes place over the twenty-four hours leading up to Nina Riva's infamous Riva Party, but it is also a culmination of generations of secrets and traumas.” If literature were tailor targeted at me, it would sound very much like this. AsToldByKenya recommended this book on her Twitter page, which was the final encouragement I needed to decide this NEEDS to be read by me and my readers seem to have agreed with me on this one!
Again, I greatly encourage audience participation. You all can start reading this as soon as possible, and as you read, post your thoughts on Twitter under the tag #TheNotJessBookClub and I will interact as I read along! By the end of May, I will post my final thoughts in a Newsletter issue where I will prompt my fellow readers with some final questions!
I am excited to start reading with all of you! And don’t worry, non-readers, we will be back to our regularly scheduled and promised Pop Culture Newsletter next week! I have some quite scandalous ideas already…
Until next time, Not J*ss
Love this idea, I’ll need to buy the book first tho
